What is Autogenic Training (AT)?
AT is one of the most powerful relaxation techniques. It consists of a series of simple mental exercises designed to turn off the `fight-flight` mechanism in the body caused by stress, and turn on the restorative rhythms associated with profound psychophysical relaxation. AT provides ways to protect yourself against harmful stress, harmonizes intentional and vegetative processes, enhances concentration and memory, and relieves congestion. It is a great alternative to traditional Western anti-stress medication, as AT does not have any negative side effects. It has been used in the treatment of many physical diseases, such as arthritis or cancer
AT was originated by Johannes Schultz, a German doctor, who was first published in 1932. Today, it is a part of health and medical studies at many European Universities. AT is particularly appealing to the ‘Western’ mind, because there is nothing "mystical" about it – it is pure physiology, and can be a first step to real spiritual healing. Unlike most other relaxation techniques, it can be practiced anywhere and at any time.
This training process takes approximately three months and consists of 12 consecutive sessions once a week. You can study it privately or semi-privately (in groups of three to six). The training will be taught in two parts: AT I and AT II.
